Welcome to What I’ve Been Reading Lately. It’s a new series I’m starting on the blog to share books I’ve been reading, music I’m listening to and what I’m watching. It’s basically a catch-up post. You can tell I’m exhausted just by reading the title of the post but the fact that you clicked on it to read more, I love you forever and ever.
Just because I love lists and templates, I’m going to divide this post into four; Book Talk, Screen Talk, Music Talk and Life In General. Don’t judge right now, I’m making this up as I go along. And besides, in the face of coronavirus, anything goes right now.
My 2020 Goodreads reading challenge is 12 books and I’ve surpassed it, duh! I’ve read nineteen books so far, it was a mix of ups and downs. You can see my reviews on Instagram, HERE. Work has been a little crazy so, I’ll be back to sharing book reviews here. But I’m thinking of changing the medium.
I recently finished Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones, it was my first ever blog tour. Although, I think I failed at it because people talked about my haircut more than the book in the comments. These were my top reads for this first quarter;
- The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa
- Know My Name by Chanel Miller
- The Shadow King by Maaza Mengiste
- The Half-God of Rainfall by Inua Ellams
- Little Eyes by Samanta Schweblin
- Not My Time To Die by Yolande Mukagasana
- The Emperor’s Babe by Bernardine Evaristo
- Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones
I’m a little sad that no Nigerian book made it to my list, but I’m still searching for my next favourite Nigerian novel. Chimeka Garricks, the author of Tomorrow Died Yesterday, has a new book out at the end of the quarter so, I’m excited about that.
I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like because I’ve been watching a lot of TV. I’m currently watching Gentified and Elite. On my line up, I have Money Heist(yes, I’m just starting), Derry Girls, Don’t Fuck With Cats, and Peaky Blinders. ( the last season) If you have any recommendations for me, do let me know. Also, I just finished watching Grace and Frankie, which is my highlight of the year so far. I think I’m Frankie, it was like watching myself. So surreal.
I haven’t been listening to new music, but I’ve binging hard on podcasts and audiobooks. My favourite audiobook so far is, Know My Name by Chanel Miller. And I don’t know why it took me so long to get into podcasts but it’s my thing now. These are the ones I religiously listen to now;
- What Should I Read Next? With Anne Bogel
- Marlon And Jake Read Dead People
- Naked & Baked
- I Said What I Said
- What Works
- The Guardian Books Podcast
I haven’t found an erotica podcast that I like so, if you know of any, just send me recommendations. Please and thanks.
Life In General
I was dreading coming to this bit. But it’s more like nervous excitement. I’m about to leave my current 9-5 with no plan in sight. The people in my life are a little scared that I should wait until I find something else but everything in me is fighting to leave. Also, I do need a little time to myself while I figure out this next phase of my life. I will keep you updated as soon as I can. Meanwhile, we need to deal with this coronavirus business first.
Please stay safe, you guys!
